OBERRA

Commissioned by Oberra to create a permanent functional sculpture like object for the outdoor bar. Serving beer and wine, the projects intension was making sure to work within the limitations of the area as it was sensitive to create a permanent object within this public space. It needed to be simple in design while also having enough creative expression to fulfil the clients desire. Made in Aluminium, I chose to design something that when not in operation, the object does not depict or represent a bar like design. It stands alone as an art object that blossoms into a function machine for the summer.

Its from out of space, with the nickname, the flying peanut. I wanted this piece to feel soft, elegant whilst looking solid and permeant. Strong in presence, the object takes responsibility to act as the ‘face of the place’. Soft curves the construction was very simple but needed to be built with precision, as there were limitations for the size to be accepted by the owners of the surrounding buildings and municipality. Carefully considered I was able to fulfil the functions needs for the client and purpose.

Situated at Skjolds plads in Copenhagen its used throughout the summer period while in the winter it is locked up without any visible chains padlocks. Thinking very thoroughly on how to achieve this outcome, it took time with testing, intuitive approaches technically, to make sure assembly was straight forward in order for the staff to be able to use with ease. Complex in thought to achieve the outcome, it ended up being a very simple expression with a robust finish that sits as a statement piece and art object that with stands the extreme weather conditions.
